Thanks to everyone who volunteered at our Christmas Party last month, as well as those who came to celebrate with us.
We had a fantastic night with live music, mulled wine and Bengali and English karaoke!

It really brought the community together – I’ve never seen Bengali women take over a karaoke!

The Mayor of Camden also joined us for the launch of new book Lotus Stories: Bangladeshi Folk Tales. Lotus Stories is a book of folk stories and songs compiled by the ‘Lotus Group’, a Sylheti cultural women’s group. The ‘Lotus Group’ was set up to capture Sylheti folk and life stories from a first generation Bangladeshi female diaspora.
At the Christmas Party we celebrated a great year for the museum. It was lovely to see the launch of Lotus Stories, say hello to the Mayor, and meet friends old and new!

This book is aimed at an audience of young Bangladeshi people, curious but lacking cultural basis in their family culture, and is in English, Bengali and Sylheti languages with audio. This will be a legacy of the work of the women and will help disseminate hidden histories, connecting the young to older generations and value the contribution and life stories of their female elders.
Musical intersectionality – only in the museum!
