We were saddened to hear of Peter SImonsen’s passing. He worked in and was well known in Somers Town, as a community worker who helped many with advice, but more than that, he was a music afficionado whose knowledge of obscure Camden bands would always amaze.
A conversation with Peter was a treasure – we recorded Peter telling us this fact about a single we had in the museum by the band Scritti Politti, whose single cover has an image of a St Pancras courtyard – a first.
He met singer-songwriter Green Gartside, the sole remaining member of the original band which originated in Leeds in 1977, when they moved to London and lived and squatted in Camden – and a walk through Somers Town Green captured the finials on the courtyards. The rest is history.
