Last chance this week to view an exhibition of work by students of Interior Architecture to image a new ‘Place for us’ – and ideas for possible ways to activate St Mary’s Church in Somers Town, and ensure its future use.
Students were asked to “reimagine St. Mary’s Church in Somers Town as a vibrant community hub for the future. In partnership with A Space for Us: People’s Museum, this project explores how cultural memory, adaptive reuse, and new forms of common space can help save a threatened building at the heart of the community. Over a period of 6 weeks, students have designed a hybrid environment that blends a social living room, a living archive of local histories, and a debating/learning space, whilst incorporating a need to share local voices and capture future stories. The brief challenges our students to rethink what a museum can be today and to create inclusive, meaningful spaces that support Somers Town’s diverse communities while preserving the church’s spiritual role.”

Middlesex University’s Rough City Research Lab
‘A Space for us People’s Museum is delighted to work with Middlesex University’s Rough City Research Lab and see the innovative work of students unfold in our space – in this our second year hosting their creative ideas for how communities can shape cities.
This collaboration has been a meeting of minds – we align with ‘Rough City’: a stand against the smoothing of our cities, where “edges are removed, appearance filtered and the real becomes ambiguous”.
