Heritage centre + digital mapping
A great Valentine’s day with a resounding show of support for both the idea of a Somers Town Heritage Centre, and to make the area a ‘Conservation area‘ based on its rich mix of social housing – a show of hands at the Neighbourhood Forum was unanimous! With a interesting presentation by Polly Hudson of… Continue reading Heritage centre + digital mapping
Opening evening
It went ahead – despite the non-appearance of the banners and illness – and a warm evening was had by all. And as usual at the Club, an unexpected treat – findings of old photos of Father Basil Jellicoe by a member of the club, whose father was cared for by the family. And the… Continue reading Opening evening
August – rained out!
August picnic was rained out but we took refuge (appropriately) in the St Pancras Old Church for a cosy evening of food, reminiscences and good company. Lester entertained us with enthralling tales of grave-robbers, satanists, weddings and wakes. And Mimi had her birthday wishes!
Welcome to 2017
We launched (again) for our second year 2017 with a great storytelling event – each postcard brought to life through a personal story behind the photo – some real details about life in old Somers Town, and a description of our new film project for 2017 with the START Festival film. Here’s a few photos of the event…
A great party – and history postcards
The History Club’s first Christmas party went very well with a quiz, a raffle, mulled wine and singalong. And a set of postcards available to commemorate our first year. The winning team pipped the post with a thorough knowledge of old pubs – guess who? No, not Roger Robinson – but locals Dave and Alan. Prizes… Continue reading A great party – and history postcards

With a quiz, an enlightening talk by warden Racheal from Old St Pancras Church, and a history from Andrew from Levertons, the longstanding family of local undertakers to Princess… Continue reading A funereal Halloween

Photo walk today
Over 20 locals – of all ages from 9 to 80 – turned up for a photo walk round Somers Town with photographer – and local whose family has lived here years – John Carroll. Truly in the spirit of ‘then and now’, taking photos was accompanied by a stream of memories from George and… Continue reading Photo walk today
Storytelling meet
Over 20 of us gathered round Basil Jellicoe’s picture for old-school storytelling in a ‘Bring your photo and tell a story’, with Cllr Robinson opening the session Wednesday June 1st. There were some surprises – who knew there’d been a Tory MP in the area? And that most homes had pianos from a local Italian supplier?… Continue reading Storytelling meet
